Class Size Issue

At the November Faculty Exchange of Views, the faculty senate addressed the issue of class sizes increasing beyond what is listed in the curriculum outlines.  The President responded that the budget cuts required UNF to cap the number of classes they could offer.  This left students in our community with a need for classes.  Dr Wallace made the decision to meet that need by temporarily allowing class sizes to increase 10% or to the room capacity, whichever is smaller.  If the class has a capacity of 30, the new capacity would be 33 if the room could hold it.  The faculty senate asked Dr Wallace for a more complete policy, including what would happen if the college made a mistake and felt a commitment to put a student in a class that was already at capacity.  The administration is still working on this policy.

Since this is primarily a matter of appropriate instructor-to-student ratios and the quality of instruction, the Union feels that it will be best addressed though the Faculty Senate. If your class size seems to violate the policy outlined by Dr. Wallace please contact your faculty senator.
